As one of the four feature charities in the HBF Run, you can help us by making your reason to run ‘to support Western Australians touched by diabetes.
2019 marks our 10th year of taking part in the HBF Run for a Reason! We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from all of our wonderful fundraisers over the past ten years. But there’s always more to do.
Diabetes is the world’s fastest growing chronic condition. There are currently more than 129,000 people living with diabetes in WA and 28 new people continue to be diagnosed with the condition every day.
Not only are we faced with an ever-increasing number of people living with and affected by diabetes, we are also faced with the challenge of Western Australia spreading out over a whopping 2.646 million km2!
Funds raised through the HBF Run will help us to ensure our services reach more people across our whole state, regardless of where they live.
“I’m a big fan of the HBF Run for a Reason and am delighted to be an ambassador for Diabetes WA this year.
May 2019 will mark 2 years since I was diagnosed with prediabetes, weighed 143kg and was told I probably only had three years to live.
Today I’m 82kg, have no signs of diabetes or improper ability to process sugars, and am now running marathons.
Being able to play with my kids has been the ultimate reward for my efforts.
I would really like to help Diabetes WA raise money and awareness about diabetes in the community.”
