Are you at risk of developing type 2 diabetes? What about heart disease? Would you know if you were at risk? Would you know how to prevent it?
Trying to work out if you are at risk of a chronic condition can be a challenge, with everything from diet and exercise through to age and family history playing a part. Working out what to do about it can be an even bigger challenge.
The good news is that chronic conditions are not inevitable. The really good news is that since August, Diabetes WA has been rolling out the new Let’s Prevent program throughout the Bunbury Region.
Even better, it’s completely free to attend.
Let’s Prevent is a health program that can help you to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
This is not a weight loss program or an exercise program – it’s a health program that supports you to become an expert in your own health.
Let’s Prevent provides you with practical information, skills and support so that you can make positive lifestyle changes that will make a big difference to your health, now and in the future.
The program is for people deemed ‘at risk’ of developing one of these chronic conditions in the future. To find out if you are at risk of type 2 diabetes, complete the Australian Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool, a quick online questionnaire. If you score 12 or above, you should consider signing up.
If one of your parents or siblings has type 2 diabetes or heart disease, or has had a stroke, you might also be ‘at risk’ and therefore eligible to participate.
