Diabetes WA is proud to launch its Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan last week, which sets out two years of commitments to embed reconciliation in our everyday work.
The Innovate RAP builds on Diabetes WA’s Reflect RAP, which focused on preparing the organisation to engage meaningfully in reconciliation.
Our Innovate RAP shifts our focus from reflection to action, guided by four pillars: building relationships, demonstrating respect, creating opportunities and ensuring accountability and transparency in our work.
As the state’s peak body for diabetes care, we recognise that diabetes disproportionately affects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Our vision is for diabetes care that is respectful, accessible and effective for everyone who needs it.
We are committed to working in partnership with these communities to co-design approaches that improve health outcomes and strengthen community wellbeing.
CEO Melanie Gates says: “Our Reconciliation Action Plan represents our commitment to relationships, respect and meaningful action, but also to humility and accountability as we continue to learn. This is an ongoing journey, and one we are taking with open hearts.”
