We had some wonderful news last week when three of our diabetes educators were recognised in the national Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) awards – Cate Mitchell, Nyaree Lawler and Christine Morton. 

Melanie Gates, Diabetes WA CEO, says it is wonderful to see their dedication, expertise and hard work recognised.

“Not only are these women exceptional clinicians, but they are also fabulous team members who we are so privileged to have as part of the Diabetes WA team,” Ms Gates says.

“Our diabetes educators come from a range of health backgrounds, from pharmacists and midwives to nurses and dietitians. What Cate, Nyaree and Christine share is an unwavering commitment to walking alongside people and families across Western Australia affected by diabetes.”

Cate Mitchell was awarded Early Career CDE of the Year; Nyaree Lawler and Christine Morton won CDE of the year in WA, and Christine was further named the 2026 Jan Baldwin National Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) of the Year.

Nyaree Lawler says was delighted to be nominated.

“The fact that someone has gone to the trouble to spend the time and effort to complete the nomination is very humbling. There are a lot of passionate credentialled diabetes educators out there and I feel privileged to be recognised.”
