Connecting with your community
If you are living with diabetes, it is important that you have a strong support system around you. Peer support groups can be accessed through the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS).
A diabetes support group is a group of people with diabetes who regularly get together to share information, experiences, and knowledge. In most instances, the support groups are led by individuals living with diabetes rather than diabetes educators or other health professionals. Please note, being part of and receiving advice from a support group is complementary to professional care and not a replacement for it.
For more information on the aims and profiles of each support group, we encourage you to contact the support group leader and ask questions.
A full list of support groups can be found at www.peersupport.ndss.com.au or call us on 1300 001 880 to find your nearest group.
