Diabetes WA

Formed in 1965, Diabetes WA is a not-for-profit, member based organisation that has served the Western Australian community for more than 50 years.

Such a milestone is a result of the work of our dedicated staff, the guidance of our volunteer board and a strict adherence to sound governance principles.

Our Team

  • ANDREW WAGSTAFF
      ANDREW WAGSTAFF Chief Executive Officer

      Andrew joined Diabetes WA in November 2008 after three years with disability service provider, Activ Foundation. His move to the social enterprise sector came after many years working in the private sector with high profile multinationals such as RTZ Argyle
      Diamonds and Deloitte.


      Andrew’s career has focused on business strategy development, marketing, brand development and business reengineering.

    • HELEN MITCHELL
        HELEN MITCHELL General Manager, Health Services (Strategy and Business Development)

        Helen Mitchell joined the organisation in June 2010. She brings more than 20 years of experience in healthcare to Diabetes WA, particularly in the areas of chronic illness prevention and management. She has
        spent many years planning, managing and evaluating health promotion projects within various sectors, with the ultimate goal of creating environments and programs that support good health.


        Helen holds a number of qualifications including Bachelor of Nursing, Post Graduate Diploma in Health Promotion and a Masters of Science in Public Health from Curtin University. Within Diabetes WA, Helen provides the strategic direction for the Health Services

      • STUART FELLOWS
          STUART FELLOWS NDSS General Manager

          Stuart joined Diabetes WA in March 2010, after a career that spans several professions and sectors.


          Starting out with a Bachelor of Science, Microbiology from Manchester Metropolitan University, Stuart has spent time working in retail logistics for Dusk Australasia, in education and environmental management for international NGOs, and in line management for the food industry.


          Stuart leads the Diabetes WA team based at the Belmont site, where the focus is managing the NDSS contract, and providing retail products for the diabetes community.

        • DEBBIE SCHOFIELD
            DEBBIE SCHOFIELD General Manager, Health Services (Operations)

            Debbie Schofield is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Diabetes Educator with vast experience in the fields of nutrition and diabetes education.

            She has extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector, working with clients and communities in Western Australia, New South Wales and even in South Yorkshire (UK).

            She has a particular interest in working with severely mentally ill clients, a group at high risk of both obesity and diabetes.

            She is passionate about providing quality, outcome-based, self-management education to people living with diabetes and about building a strong diabetes workforce to provide quality care.

          • NIGEL MILLER
              NIGEL MILLER General Manager, Corporate Services

              Nigel is a Certified Practising Accountant with a Masters in Business Administration from Edith Cowan University. He has more than 12 years experience in finance and business, working across sectors ranging from commercial construction to small business to not-for-profit. Before joining the Diabetes WA executive team in 2016, Nigel was the finance manager of Diversified Services Australia.
